ROD P.

Rod P. Our Union:
Brothers and sisters united by our democratic movement, upholding our collective agreement and it's spirit, and defending our workplace. Protecting members from management's agenda. The paramount principle is "injury to one is injury to all".

Good and bad about the job:
Good= Camaraderie with transit employees, interaction with the public, working outdoors.
Bad= Lousy hours, shift work, unattainable running times, lack of support from management, no physical security.

The traffic:
No problem, its part of the job.

Likes and dislikes:
Likes= Coming to work, interaction with people, paid by the minute.
Dislikes= dirty buses, no A/C, noisy heaters and wipers.

The best thing:
Enjoy all the seasons.

The worst thing:
Tirades by irate passengers caused by BS schedules…

My job in the scheme of things:
One cog in the wheel

A message to Translink riders:
Take your service complaints to the politicians, (MLA, mayor, council persons) and most importantly to the media. Don't bother with Translink. Direct you criticism of bus service, schedules and missed connections to the politicians, not to transit operators.

What my job involves:
Providing reliable transportation to passengers in a safe manor.

Dealing with the public:
No problem.

Memorable stories:
Driving a 3800 GM as 404 southbound entering the tunnel. The GM's have huge vents above the windshields. Anyway entering the tunnel there is great air pressure, resulting in a big gust… Resulting in an elderly gentlemen seated in the chat seat, having his toupee blown off, landing on a ladies lap seated behind… She screamed…

The value of Translink:
Great potential to have a world class bus system. But interested only in ALRT or light rail. Compounded by its desire to silence all criticism from it's workforce.
